I was out shopping with my boyfriend and I was chatting about what to make on my day off as I had to take my car to the garage. He said he would like a crumble so I said what do you want in it…answer Apple and Blackberry.
I’m not a cooked fruit person so crumble is not my thing at all but when I get a request for something then I will always do it. I did make two crumbles and I used different recipes because the first recipe I used said to cook the crumble before hand but something didn’t seem quite right to me. Making two crumbles was also a good idea as lots of people wanted to some crumble.
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Place the flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl and mix well. Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub into the flour mixture. Keep rubbing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs and once it resembles breadcrumbs add the oats.
Cut up the apples into slices then add a layer of apples to the bottom of a ovenproof dish then sprinkle sugar over the apples. Cut the blackberries in half then add a layer to the dish then sprinkle sugar on the top of them. Repeat this until all the apples and blackberries are all in.
Sprinkle the crumble mixture on top then bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is browned. Serve with cream or custard.
Everyone who had some of this crumble, said they enjoyed it.
