This week I have been doing an 18th Birthday Cake for a friend so I decided that I would do a blog entry about my Cupcake decorating kits that I put together for family and friends. This idea actually came from my boyfriend, I was struggling not being able to visit my niece and nephew.
He said that I could put the boxes together then I could video chat them and we all ice at the same time which I thought was a great idea.
I actually ended up making 4 batches of 12 cupcakes. The first two batches didn’t cook well due a malfunctioning cooker and I ended up binning all 24 cupcakes and having a full meltdown which made me tell my boyfriend that I was not baking again. It was a bad day because I was convinced that the reason they had not gone right was because of me and not because of the oven.
I am a big perfectionist when it comes to my cakes and no matter what if they don’t go right then they meet the bin.
I used a 6 hole cupcake box for the cupcakes and a big cake box to hold all the tools needed for these kits. I wrote little cards that said what each box consisted of. I added my own little tubs of sprinkles which was mixed from sprinkles I had so everyone got a good mixture and I added a few sugar flowers as well.
Each box contained 6 freshly baked vanilla cupcakes and enough buttercream to decorate them. Each box is enough for two people unless you want to be greedy.
My niece and nephew absolutely loved this kit and got so much fun out of decorating their own cupcakes. My nephew ate a lot of buttercream before it even got on the cakes which is totally okay as long as they have fun in my book.
These kits are a good family activity and keeps everyone quiet while they concentrate on the decorating. I loved watching my brother and his family decorate their cakes and getting to see their designs.
